Appointing a cop as your Vice President while the left has spent the summer openly protesting police brutality and corruption is such an “eat shit fuckers” move.
Seeing elections as a situation where you must act conservatively, and then you must spend the non-election time acting radically, does not work if you and people like you are not organizing in the off times.
Especially when you’ve historically abandoned politics when a Democrat has been at the helm, doing nothing but compromising with the devil.
“Oh but Melony, Trump is unprecedented …”
No, he’s not.
He’s the next step of Bush Jr, who was the next step of Bush Sr, who was the next step of Reagan.
The fact that so many of you don’t see it alarms me. You’ve been LITERALLY ALIVE FOR IT.
The fact that you saw Bush embarrass us locally and internationally with his flagrant stupidity while triggering endless wars, that you saw him have shoes thrown at his head and read a children’s book upside down, that he normalized a level of existence that enabled someone like Trump, who is dumber and viler, and now you just think he’s some cute old man who paints cats??
It makes me think that should Biden be elected, you will once again not organize in the off times, and then be somehow shocked when the step after Trump comes.
“Oh Melony, what have you even done to have the authority to lecture me?”
I was politically active in the Obama era. My gay self was on edge from the start when he was campaigning in ’08 with “marriage is between a man and a woman.” And then California agreed with him.
I marched in the street, I organized and attended secret educational meetings at activists’ houses, I made it my job everywhere I went to facilitate queer space and to make those spaces as safe as I could. It only slowed so hard in the Trump years because my health and sanity had to come first. And I STILL made attempts to make queer space where I was. And I STILL try to educate people, and myself.
Don’t beat others over the head with how they should vote and how more Trump will be their fault, not when the alternative given has been such an open slap in the face to MANY people who have been on the ground floor, or even remotely paying attention the whole time.
Prepare for more Trump, commit today to what you’re gonna do in that event, and then be prepared to DO IT ANYWAY. Or, be honest that all you’re going to do is fill your bubbles and go home, and make the radical choice.
