Here’s the thing, Sacramento Bee … you essentially are saying here that a woman who took nearly half a million from law enforcement she won’t prosecute, used taxpayer dollars to erect a fence to keep her constituents out, and is currently using tax dollars to prosecute her opponent during the race is a better choice because all that social justice stuff shouldn’t be the primary issue here, and that our community can afford to wait for her to eventually come around and get on board.
This isn’t you being optimistic. This is a deep cynicism coupled with a lack of understanding about what is happening in our community right now and a low key assumption about what ‘our’ community means (We caught your line about Noah being the “right messenger”) and who it is that deserves to be served first and best by our government officials.
We can’t ignore Schubert’s tactics and deep pocketed supporters who seem to steer her prosecutions far from themselves. The fact that she does the job of locking ppl up and occasionally implementing the death penalty is not a reason to support her. It is literally the barest bones of her job description. A job for which she is well paid by us – the community you think should just keep waiting for change. Nope. You got this one wrong.
The way that communities of color are policed and prosecuted, the endless police misconduct, the ever harsher sentences for those who have made mistakes while also committing the crime of being poor, the misuse of public funds for the personal comfort of a woman scared of bbq, these are issues we care about. They are not sideline items. They can not wait.
Haven’t we had enough of second chances for government officials that so deeply disappoint us? By the Sacramento Bee’s logic, Donald Trump should enjoy his second term as well. After all, he showed up and President-ed too right? Let’s all just be patient.
I’m out of patience with government officials who only support their rich donors. We are better than this, Sacramento – even if our own newspaper doesn’t think so. I’m voting Noah Phillips.
